I came to your class with Kristine Schmaltz, MD, then a surgeon at Island Hospital. We loved it. You talked about cottonwood magic, shared samples, handled tons of questions. A fine job all around!

My name is Sandra Chomiak and I have been taking Kelly Ann Nickerson's Herb class at the Skagit Co-op since she began teaching it, about 3 years I think. She is very organized and knowledgeable on each class she gives. I have learn a lot about herbs and there different uses. I now have my own herb garden and have become more aware of the herbs that are around us everywhere. I can now make my own tinctures, soaps, lotions and how to cook different things using herbs. I try hard never to miss her class. It has been an enjoyable experience and has opened up a whole new area of natural health to me. I am grateful that I took opportunity to take the class when I did.

I have attended several classes at the co op. I enjoy your classes a great deal and I do encourage others to attend. I love the passion that you have for your work, it becomes contagious during your classes. I often have plant questions for you but have not made it to class.

My first interaction with Kelly came when I attended her discussion on herbs a couple years ago. This was at the Skagit Fair grounds during the annual Home Show. It was sparsely attended, I think there were 6 or so people. ( The attendance was not a reflection on her) However, it was wonderful for those that did attend. We had more time and learned more than if there had been a large crowd. After class she told us about her Skagit Coop talks on Thursday nights.

I was so delighted to learn that I could glean more herbal info from her. Kelly was very engaging as an instructor and the hour class was always too short.

I have attended 4 or 5 of the Co-op classes, always learning something new.

For an example, I recall Kelly's demonstration showing us how to make skin cream with all natural ingredients. She went into detail about the ingredients used and what they offered. We all ended up trying some of the rose cream on our hands, it smelled wonderful. I have since made this cream at home and love it.

Another memorable class was in July of 2015 at the Coop. Kelly discussed a few culinary herbs that you wouldn't know to use.  She and Anna made the most wonderful salad topped with flowers like Roses, Clover, Nasturtiums and Bachelor Buttons, it was beautiful.  I have used these beautiful herbs many times now on salads. There was also lemonade with a lavender syrup for sweetness, yum!

I can't say enough positive things about Kelly, her classes are so informative and fun, I look forward to attending more.

I've enjoyed going on nature walks and learning about the medicinal herbs we have growing all over our Island.

Your tinctures helped me heal after going through breast cancer treatment. I was encouraged to research, even further, what I needed to do to fight cancer and build up my immune system and body.

Your passion and love to share your knowledge and help others is inspiring and encouraging.

-Gratefully yours, Sylvia Cooper

I have been to three of Kelly's herb classes and I plan to go again.  I find her style of teaching practical, clear, interesting and lively. We are lucky to have her as a resource for learning about the wonderful plants that are right here in Anacortes.
